Hello everyone! I am not new to chickens, I grew up on a farm. However I joined the Army when I was 18. Got married after my enlistment was over. My wife and I have 3 girls and we also adopted a boy. But I always missed the farm life. Then last year my oldest daughter joined FFA (Future Farmers of America) and we bought a Silver Duckwing Bantam for her. She placed well at fair and her chicken was actioned. The good news he donated the chicken back to her, so she is going to show her again. she also wanted to get a Rooster for her hen, but wants to raise and show an egg layer. Now my middle daughter is starting FFA and she wants to raise and show a chicken and a duck. And thats when I got the brilliant idea, hey they never seen a chick come out of the shell. They didn't know what pipping or zippering was. So I told them I would help and buy what they needed, but they were going to have to do the reaserch on incubating fertalized eggs. And thats how we found this site. I even learned alot as I have never incubated eggs before, we always had our hens do that chore, lol. So we got some Silver Duckwings and
Ameraucana eggs in the incubator. They have been in there for ten days now. Did a candling last night, out of twelve eggs one was infertile and one had a blood ring, the rest are developing nicely. Today we put in 8
Welsh Harlequin duck eggs in, so we are hoping for a good hatch on those. So wish us luck, we are excited and cant wait to show off our first hatch's. As far as hobbies, I like to hunt, fish, and hike this great state of AZ. I am a Tool and die maker by trade, so ya I like to build and make things, metal or wood, it doesn't matter, lol. we do have a couple dogs, one is a mutt, one is a Chihuahua, and my dog is a German Shorthair Pointer (he's my avatar pic). Thanks For reading my story and I hope to share some more in the future.
