Hello 👋🏽... I am usually over on the quail boards.. well I moved states over the summer and now allowed to have chickens!! My cousin has a small flock down the road.. grabbed 9 eggs.. two were not fertile and the rest hatched and they are the most beautiful and lovely little fluff balls ever!!! Okay.. question is.. at what age do I give them a perch... yea... coming from the quail world.. they don’t perch.. haha... they are about 4 days old now and think they are so smart jumping up on the heat plate.. I love them!!!!

We also have roosts in our coop section for the youngsters, and they use them to play on.
Chicks raised in the coop with a broody hen are up on roosts by three weeks or so, as soon as they have flight feathers, because mama encourages them.
Brooder raised chicks take longer to actually roost at night, but will later.
My chicks in the brooder get up on the feeders and waterer early too, playing 'king of the hill'.

For me I usually will give them one once I move them out of the brooder into a pen. I have a batch of chicks right now tho that have started trying to roost and they get on top of the water, knock it down or poop down it so this group is getting one sooner LOL!
