Hello All and I am hopeful to learn/discuss trials and tribulations with caring for backyard chickens!
I reside in south Louisiana and have purchased a chicken coop/tractor from a local company that I decided to support. It is a very nice chicken tractor.. very expensive.. but should last a lifetime with no more than regular maintenance. (pics to follow later)
I like to jump in instead of slowing easing into things so this is my first venture with chickens. I purchased 12 hens and 1 roo from a farm supply store in Gonzales LA and raised them all up and theyre currently 12 weeks old. No eggs yet but I should start getting some by Feb 2024 from all that I've read. My baby roo didn't make it so the girls are gonna be laying unfertilized eggs for a while.
I went with 3 breeds 4x each. Australorp (black), Speckled Sussex, and New Hampshire Reds.
