Hi everyone! I'm a newbie I don't even have chicks yet.... Soon to come I bought a little chicken coop 5' x 3' with 2 nesting boxes. How many chickens could I get? We will be making a bigger run 8' x 8' any ideas would be great.

5'x3' gives you 15feet square space and the general rule is 4sq ft per chicken so that would fit 3 but this doesn't include your run which you said was about 8x8 which is 64 square feet make it a covered, so with out seeing the actual coop I would say the final tally is 6 at the most otherwise your gonna need more nest boxes possibly and I can't see how much room they have to roost at night. but good luck with everything!

you always have to figure in chicken addiction which hits early and hard. Usual advice is to make the coop and run as large as possible - build it and I guarantee you will fill it up.

Thanks! I ordered 2 hens and 2 bantams. I wanted to start small and not get overwhelmed. I hope it works. Ill send pics as soon as I figure this site out!
