My rooster had a foot abscess which we treated but in fear I might lose him, I tried hatching some eggs he fertilized. I had two clutches, only one was fertilized in the first one and he hatched this morning. He is in a brooder under a hot plate but I worry he will get cold. I’m used to having a few snuggled up under there. The second clutch is due to hatch in 11 days and 6 of them are fertilized. He’s fairly quiet, unless he gets out from under the plate.

I’m going to see if I can get him a buddy at tractor supply today. Another thought is to move him back to the incubator (hovabator) with the trays removed for a few days. The other clutch is in a different incubator.

Thoughts?

PS, my rooster is doing well, his foot is still very swollen but he’s walking, eating, normally.

I've moved a chick from brooder back to the hatching incubator a couple of times, just for a few hours. They had acted cold at 95F, and that's at 99.5 so the extra heat sure helped them out!
