momma hen hatched out two chicks from eggs i bought. i am 99.9% sure that one is a speckled sussex. the other, i haven't a clue. it came from a light green egg ( i think) and it is SOLID black. the whole chick is black, black beak, and black legs and feet........ i have never seen a solid black chick.

any ideas?

It's going to be an Easter Egger mix of some kind since it came from a green egg.

Since EEs are mutts, they can be any color.

It also could be a black Ameraucana, if the breeder wasn't being good on egg color (and sometimes Ameraucana eggs look green to my eyes). However, black Ameraucanas usually have some cream on their bellies as chicks. http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook_files/blacklf.jpg

there is no color anywhere that is not black. i know i have never seen a solid black chick!

i am 99% sure the egg was a light green..... i do have some color sensitivity, so it could be light blue, but i'm almost positive it was green.

i'll snap a picture if i can. momma keeps a very tight rein on them
