This morning I found an egg in the coop that had no shell then my kids came home check the coop and I had three more eggs but one with no shell. Is this from the same chick? Or different? All my hens were born between January to February this year. I feed from our local feed of 16% layer feed and then twice a day I throw out scratch grains with black oiled sunflower seeds . Then I just feed them left over veggies and fruit from what I cut up for the kiddos.

If they’re just starting to lay it can be normal. What are you feeding them? They need calcium and often what’s in layer feed can be insufficient. I would start by adding oyster shell free choice, perhaps increasing protein to 18% and cutting off the scratch and BOSS or giving it on a limited basis. They should get no more than approximately a tablespoon of extras per day after feed. Their feed contains the nutrients they need, boss and scratch dilute that.
