Cocci in poultry are not bacteria, they are protozoa. Antibiotics have no effect on cocci. Corid (amprolium) provides an antibiotic free treatment against cocci.

Yup. They are protozoans. Sulfadimethoxine is an antibiotic that kills certain Cocci strains which Amprolium does not.

Just an update for those of you who are interested. All the chicks are doing fine and are out in the big coop. No signs of bloody poop in any of them and they are all healthy. Maybe I just got lucky but I trusted my instinct and it was the right choice.
