Orange County FL Zoning Approved for BackYard Chickens!

For everyone wondering what to do (myself included) A few weeks ago, I called Dennis Mudge who teaches that Urban Chicken Class at the UF Extension office. He gave me a bit of direction of what to do, mentioned he was at that meeting that OtownHens posted about and said that the best course of action was to contact my district leader (which i can't remember who mine is now ): but also said that he recommends taking the course they teach every so often because you get a certificate for the course, and if a law gets passed you'll most likely need that certificate. I gave him my email address so that way I'd be aware of when the course is being taught again, and I'd recommend anyone else interested to give him a call or at least check the UF Extension site frequently to see when they're teaching the course again.

Hello we are starting up a FaceBook group, to drum up community support for backyard chickens in Orange County, Florida. If you have an account please go ahead and add our page.

Step 1. As others have noted is getting support for county leaders and the mayors. We will work on starting a writing campaign, and get the template sent out to everyone.

Looking at Pensacola's laws governing chickens they can have 8 no permit or class required. Other municipalities don't require a permit or class. That is an onerous and unneeded requirement. We are working with folks from across the state to drum up support both locally and statewide to push these legislators to allow backyard poultry.

I am new to owning chickens and I just wanted to know if this law (only 3 hens and no roosters) is up to date ? And does anybody know the laws for owning ducks on a R1 property?

Orange County Fla. did not approve the chicken ord. It is very important to remember when you get "caught", it seems to be blamed on the local officials instead of a lack of research on the part of the owner. Trying to get permission or get ords changed to do something, when you've already shown that you are willing to ignore regulations is a tough sell. to those on local government.
