Hello
We have recently got our first backyard chooks - two lovely buff orpington hens. I have just noticed a lump under one of their eyes - it is red and swollen and the eye on that side looks a bit gluey. Does anyone know what this and whether it can treated?
Thanks in advance!

It almost looks like some sort of abcess.

It could possibly be a respiratory disease such as MG or coryza. Is there a bad odor? She looks as though she has nasal drainage, too. Is she having any sneeze or cough, or any wheeze or rattly breathing? Separate her from other birds. Tylan and oxytetracycline are a couple of medicines that can treat respiratory diseases. Look her over to make sure that she wasn't pecked around the eye. Many people cull birds with respiratory diseases, or you may want to get her tested.
