Pea Gravel

We have been proud chicken owners for almost four weeks! The chicks will be moving to their outdoor space in a month or so and I want to get a walkway through it to help deal with the mud. What size would you consider fine pea gravel? I want to buy the right stuff. All but the walkway will be a topsoil and some big rocks and tree stumps for the girls to explore.
