Hi and welcome from the Poconos!
Need an opinion...strange thing happened tonight. The whole broody chicken thing is new to me so maybe I am just hopeful. When I went to close the coops tonight, one of my leghorns was all fluffed up in the nest box sitting on a golf ball. She was very upset about me checking under her for an egg. It was so weird that she was even in the box so late. Anyway, has anyone ever heard of a leghorn going broody? I know I could just walk my lazy butt up to the coop right now and see if she is still there but that's not going to happen. I guess I will see in the morning.
would you put a price on the chicks you intend to hatch???
Well I know what I'm selling mine for if that's what you mean. I have a dozen in the bator and I already have prices set in my head.
There have been a few folks over on the broody hen thread with leghorns that went broody, and a friend of mine had one thinking about it but she quit after a week. So yes, it certainly can happen, but I would keep her on golf balls for at least a week to make sure she is serious, and if you are going to move her to a different nest then do it early on and before you give her hatching eggs.
Quote: This sounds an awful lot like 'counting chicks before they hatch' ... How are those Hollands?
Silkiesensation! You will be sooooo close to where I live, so sad that I won't be here.
ETA: my first broody was a leghorn.
I would have to pick the weekend all of y'all are busy...LOL
Someone PLEASE take some of these spare roos & drakes. My freezer is still packed full of broilers & I have to find room in there very soon for this turkey, otherwise I would just process them.
