I have a Silverrudd chick that hatched Tuesday night. It has a piece of egg stuck on it, that ive been slowly soaking and trying to remove. I've managed to get a large portion of it off, but its pretty solid under it and I dont want to rip its skin. Should I leave the rest on there and get it out in the brooder, or get the remaining piece off before I put it out there?

Thank you

Ali

Is the chick still in the incubator? Is she eating/drinking?

You can apply a dab or coconut oil to the stuck on egg shell to see if that will help it loosen up. It will probably fall off on its own in time if you don't want to mess with it.

We hatched 10 Silverudd Blue on Tuesday and this one had a few pieces of eggs shell on it. Once it completely dried all the pieces of shell fell off. I have only had to pick shell off on occasion from a chuck. Typically if it is small amounts and they have fluffed out several hours I would put them in the brooder and it will come off itself.

I put it out in the incubator and Chick is doing very well physically. Drinking and eating and is very feisty.
I'll check on them this morning. I'll try some of the coconut oil and see if the helps.
