Somebody posted this on the FB page and I had to post it here:
A Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today
A part of America died.....
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried at his side.
The beat he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation will not fly half-mast,
To his name they add will a gold star.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today....
maybe in your town or mine
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors.
A cop put his life on the line,
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call....of himself he gave all.
A part of America died.
Thanks everybody- I'm waiting to hear the final funeral arrangements but for right now I think the funeral is gonna have to be at Freed-Hardeman college auditorium in Henderson since so many out of state and out of county Policemen are scheduled to come in for it. We've even heard that Leo"s are coming in from as far as Canada.
