My rooster that won last year has molted his main sickle feathers.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for them to grown back? I've been giving him extra protein.

Lets hope longer than three weeks so we can win teh county fair. Don't want that Barred Rock in good condition at the fair we are attending! Seriously, it should be grown back in by the county fair time. Or at least showing itself by then.

I'm still trying to identify my little black hen... Black barred rock?

Well, I'm pretty sure she isn't a Plymouth Rock although she might be mixed with one. Her legs are too short and her tail is too long to be a purebred. (Just FYI, Barred and Black are both color varieties of Plymouth Rocks. So, a bird couldn't be both black and barred. It's a common mistake people make.)

Our little Barred hen took the whole show at the Drew Co. Fair today. There were over 200 birds there this year.
