I use nipple waterers in the summer and mix in a little apple cider vinegar to keep down the algae, purchased the nipples from Burkey in Texas and the bulkhead fittings from Amazon

Exactly. A cone or baffle, something like that.

I have a coop where the only place to hang the feeder/waterer is under a roost. You can imagine how that works! I used an old sour cream container lid, cut a hole in the middle and slid it down the twine the feeder/waterer hung from. Yours isn't hanging, but you can easily make something similar.

Sounds like a good idea

Just keep on raising it to beak height.

And the first week or 2 you will just have to check the water twice a day.

And a little poop in the water will not hurt them anyway so don't stress about it. Just clean at least once a day for the first 2 weeks.

You need to ditch the dish. LOL
My friends and I changed to Horizontal Nipples. No spills no cleaning no problem.
