Hi again! My RIR is about a week old and today it seems like she's been having trouble pooping. Actually pushing the poop out. Her little vent looked a little red when I cleaned the poop off of it. I'm wondering if she's just dehydrated or constipated? Is there anything I can do to get her to drink more water? Maybe give her some sugar water? The poop was solid, not loose. And it just sort of stuck to her butt fluff and it looked like she was trying to push more out but it's not working. :(
TIA!

Has she had pasty butt before today, and have you had her since she was hatched? I would give her a few drops of molasses. Take a QTip and oil her vent with mineral or vegetable oil. Dip her beak into water a few times and repeat often, letting her swallow. Mix a small lid with very watery chick feed, and try getting her to eat. Shipping stress, getting cold, or too hot of a brooder can all cause constipation and pasty butt.

What is the exact temp in your brooder and what exactly do you feed her?
