Our 5 month old buff Orpington hen has had 2 incidents in the last 2 months of poopy butt. In both instances, it started like in the photo and got to the extent that accumulation occurred, she seemed to be picking around her tail area in irritation, and we gave her a warm soak to manually remove the caked poop from her.
At the point in the photos, should we remove it or wait until it’s a bigger issue? When should we do a soaking intervention if not at this point?
Any recommendations diet-wise? Honeydew seemed to be an issue for her, so we removed that and other fruits, have kept the treats to greens, radishes, oats, and black larva grubs. We’re using probiotics as well in the feed.
