Possible water belly

I have a 7 month old laying hen with a distented abdominal. Feels squishy and noticeably distended. She is eating, drinking, and active. Her laying has slowed over the last week.

How can I be for sure it is water belly vs an infection?

When should I plan to drain? I would prefer not to have to drain if I don't have to. What are the signs to watch out for?

I believe Easter Egger and she is on New Country Organic grower feed with free choice oyter shell and grit along with food scraps on occassion.
