Yesterday my dad found a possum head in our yard and I'm wondering what killed it and is it a threat to my chickens. Three of my chickens have died recently and I thought my flock turned cannibalistic. My chicken that died was practically nothing left of him. My second one had a little bit of her insides eaten and my last one had a severe back injury that died in surgery because she kept waking up so they had to keep giving her anesthetic and eventually her heart stopped beating during surgery :( All of them were found during the day and I found tufts of fur that was yellowish snagged on my fence. Where I live we mainly have possums, raccoons and cats. The rarer predators we have are foxes, coyotes, and bobcats ( though I have been told there are weasels out here but I doubt it ). And the main aerial predators are falcons, hawks, and owls.

Any suggestions on what killed the possum and my chickens?

Most likely raccoon or one of your "rarer" predators. They could all do that.
An owl will decapitate but would unlikely be able to carry the possum carcass off unless it was the great horned variety.
