I need to buy a decent canner. Not a cheapy type but not the top of the line either. Needs to be easy to use and decently made. Thinking 8 quart capacity. Would like American made but we all know that's getting hard to find...

I have a fear of using canners so need one that's not too scary!!

Recommendations?

I've used a Presto since the early '70s and always had good results with it. The All American is another good brand. Here is a web site where I bought my 4 qt. pressure cooker about 3 years ago - good, prompt service, and I love the Presto cooker.

The information lists Wisconsin Aluminum Foundery as the place of manufacture.

I assume you want a pressure canner that can handle 8 quart jars, not one with 8 quart capacity. Got to be careful with terminology.

I'm quite happy with my 30 quart Presto pressure canner. It can handle 18 pints (with the extra stacking rack) or 8 quarts for pressure canning and 8 quarts or 9 pints for waterbath method canning. I strongly recommend getting one that can do both methods.

You might find this thread interesting. I posted in there the type of accessories I found were beneficial to have. One thing I will mention is the Ball Canning Book. People talk about the Blue Book, but mine is not blue. Anyway, it is a great guide. If you actually read the thing and follow the instructions, it makes it about as easy and safe as it can be.
