Pro's and Con's of a Siamese Cat please!

Hello! I am considering adopting a siamese ragdoll mix kitten from a shelter, I know a lot about the ragdoll breed, but have heard mixed messages on the Siamese breed. Any experiences I would love to hear, also if anyone has a mix like this, I would love to know how they feel about their cats!

I love siamese. Got my first one when I was 7. Have had pure or mixes since then. The males are more lovey than the females. They are very talkative. Have had some that will play fetch with you and all will come when called by name. My current one is 9 yrs old and still as spry as when she was a kitten. Wonderfull breed. Oh and I'm almost 40 now so I've dealt with the breed for 33 yrs. Lol. Any questions I ll try to answer them.

I have a domestic shorthair (cat language for short furred kitty mutt) who I am pretty sure has Siamese or other Asian kitty blood in her.

These can be pros OR cons depending on YOUR personality. For instance, I love having a velcro cat. Some people might HATE it. Some people might love a noisy, talkatative kitty, others not!

Siamese tend to be super friendly and in your face (and glued to your side most of the time). They're also very loud. They tell you EVERYTHING. They talk even more if you talk back. Mine has always been very sweet and tolerant (we can smush and love on her, and she doesn't care), but that likely varies between individuals. Mine also fetches, and comes when called (kissy noises or finger snapping makes her come running, and she yammers excitedly the entire way over).

Sometimes she can get a little cloying, like if I am trying to get work done. But having a cat who acts like a dog is awesome most of the time!

My grandmother always had siamese cats when I was growing up. When I was little they were very tolerant and even let me dress them up in doll cloth and feed them milk out of a little bottle. They were also very loud, meowing about everything. Meow im in the same room as you! Meow im leaving the room! Meow i would like to eat! Meow i see that you are eating without me!

My cousin also had siamese but they were very shy so I did not get to see them much. They claim that when there were not visitors the cats were very friendly and always on their lap.

I currently have an oriental shorthair (a tabby crossed with a siamese). She runs away if anyone other than myself is around (including my husband) but she is almost annoyingly affectionate towards me. She is always sitting on me, usually licking me with her rough kitty tongue. She did get the siamese tendency to be very vocal. Even when she is hiding she is still meowing. She LOVES to play and steal things. If it is small enough for her to pick up she considers it hers. Frequently things go missing because she likes to stash them places and you have to wait until she decides to play with it again and leaves it in the open to find it. I love my Siamese! She's super loving and extremely attached to me. I will say that they can be loud. If they want something you will definitely know about it! Her "meeping" drives my SO a little crazy but I think it's adorable. They can also be needy - they like a lot of attention, the second you sit down they are likely to be in your lap, and again most will make a decent amount of noise when they think you're not giving them the attention they deserve. They are best suited for someone who wants a lap cat and is home enough to give them lots of attention.

Aww, everyone's cat's are adorable!! And I have learned a lot about the siamese, thank you all so much. Funny story actually, when I went to the shelter to see if I wanted to adopt the cat, it turned out she was out for surgery and wouldn't be available to be seen for another week, so on the way back home my mom and I stopped at another shelter to check things out and there I fell in love with a beautiful little gray kitten. She is very talkative, super sweet and just lovely! Thank you all again or sharing with me!

I'm thinking of adopting a Siamese mix kitten from the shelter, I've heard they don't shed as much as other cats, but the mom of the kittens at the shelter sheds quite a bit. I've also heard they are very lovey and sweet. They like being up high when they are alone, but they are very beautiful cats. Highly intelligent too. If you'd want a low-shedding cat, then I read this one person uses a Furminator, which is supposed to be a brush that eliminates 90% of shedding. My mother is allergic to cats, but is fine the more she's around them. Vacuuming and brushing are good ways to eliminate large amounts of shedding, but if you don't mind that, then over all, Siamese cats are pretty sweet. If your going to be away for a while, they tend to get rowdy, and obnoxious. If they get along with dogs or not doesn't really depend on the breed of cat, but I suggest introductions at a young aged kitten, is it grows up learning the do's and don'ts. I have never owned a cat before, but I've fostered 3 from a shelter. Some of it depends on the cats energy. One kitten I fostered was a tux and was very calm. Another was a Torbi and is a complete snoot of a cat, and the last was a gray cat who was ok. Each cat has its own personality, but it doesn't matter. If you give a cat the love it needs, than it should do the same for you.

Hi I have a Siamese cross and is adorable nature. Not too vocal either. His father was a pure breed red point and mother a tabby. Mine is a boy and loves laps and is not fussy who either and loves my children 8 and 10 year olds. Monty at just over 5 months.

I have had a very good experience with siamese kittens n cats as a matter of fact i have 2 female babies i am trying to find homes for right now their daddy is a long haired full blooded siamese and their mom i found out is a lynx point the kittens are beautiful all have their own personalities n i believe they r wonderful pets...

This is a long haired one i call precious looks like ahe has white glasses on

Then the other one i trying to find a home for is the sister of precious from above her name is Tess she is short haired n she is the one laying closest to us in the picture and the mom is also in the back ground as well.

In my experience siamese cats are mean, pretty cute and all, but mean. I found that adopting mixed cats fairs a lot better.
