Quail feeder hole size?

If I want to use a small plastic container as a quail feeder, what size hole diameter will not allow quail to waste their food? 1", 1-1/4", or 1-1/2" hole diameter?

I would start with 1" and see. I think that's big enough, but I've never used a feeder like that.

Thanks but how do you avoid the quail from wasting excess food?

My girl just has a bowl. It's short enough that she can jump (scramble) in and out, but tall enough that she can't scratch much out.

I use chick feeders and extend the neck of the jar with a cut up toilet paper roll.
