I had 2-6 rouens for 7 years. They LOVED tomatoes and stomped their run bare. My hen would jump for them, they were second only to worms. After the ducks were gone their run became a very lush tomato garden full of volunteers. If you go with ducks I wouldn't keep them penned with the plants otherwise they'll become mulch.
