i was wondering if quails need a male around to keep laying well. i have heard about 'laying pellets' and i'm not sure what thats about. And i'm going to keep it organic so i don't want any weird hormone injections or hormone feed.

The girls will lay at the same rate with out without a male around. No need for hormone injections.

Layer pellets are a ration for birds that are laying. You can't really buy an organic feed for quail. They need a high percentage of protein and organic feeds don't have that. Your best bet is to buy Purina game bird starter. There are many types of quail, I would go with coturnix if I were you. read up on the different kinds and make your decision.

Eggs. see the delimma?

Also layer feed has added calicum, to make eggshells. Otherwise the eggs look like jello, and pop.
