I would love to get a Silkie and/or Serama, but I have been told they are not very hardy. I live in Oregon, in the Willamette Valley. Typically we have a pretty mild climate but we've had some unusually cold and hot weather this year. I recently lost one of my girls to dehydration despite having tons of water out and keeping the coop and yard as cool as possible. I do not have an insulated or heated coop, and I do not want to get chickens that are going to die in bad weather. Does anyone live in my area and have these breeds? What's your opinion on getting these breeds and their hardiness?
