questions on 2 coops with a shared run

Still working on it. Almost there. Need to frame coop door, cut chicken door, paint, do inside of coop. And a bit more HWC..... Ugh. And we aren't around the next 3 weekends.... Which is when we have time to work on it.

Wanted to update for anyone thinking of it and searching like I did. All my chicks and chickens are integrated and have been for a while. They still all slept in the main coop. One used the new coop to lay in but think that was the only time anyone went in there.

Last night I went out and got most of the younger ones and put them in the new coop and closed the door between the 2 runs to hopefully train them to sleep in there. I will probably have to go out each night at dusk and put them into the new coop. Not sure if I will wait a week or just wait till they start putting themselves to bed to open the door between the runs again and hope at least some still sleep in the new coop. If not at least I tried and it is then their choice.

Here are a few pictures that show the 2 runs.

I raised a group in a second coop within a shared run thinking that they would be "homed" to that one. In time, all were sleeping in the original coop with the older chickens.

I am thinking that will happen. But hopefully if they feel crowded in the original coop some will move to the new coop. Lol
