I'll try to get a few. The single bird in the previous post (in my hand) is one I don't think I am taking any issues with.

I'll try to get an overhead view of some of them later so that you can see what I am talking abt. As far as the differences in their barring

I'll hopefully be adding in 3 boys and some girls from a hatch from breeder eggs.

Itll be my first hatch, but looking forward to it!!!

@Nero70002 The first 3 are ones I like. The last one has a bunch but I circled in blue the ones with not as much clarity in their bars.

I really dont know what I am looking for, I am not gonna breed to SOP just fun improving the look of the flock in general. Sharper more pronounced bars is what I wanna achieve for the most part. Good body as these will also be for meat. But I am researching and doing at the same time...so who knows lol

This bird has been off since the beginning. I don't know if it's mixed or something else.
The bars are way muted and her face looks like a penguin lol. I call her penguin

Yeah, that is odd. Looks more cuckoo than barred.

Please meet Perseus! (Purr-see-us) (Perseus is a constalation, my chickens have a theme I guess )


He is an addition to the Galaxies. A friend surprised me with him, and in she put him with the Galaxies. I had a chance to check him over for bugs, but I didn't get to integrate like I had wanted. (Me: no backbone, afraid to mess up anyone's plans, a people pleaser, and timid and shy as far as speaking up for myself) she didn't know I wanted to integrate, or separate for awhile. She just wanted to see him in his new home. He was in there abt an hr before they left, and at that point they were all already establishing or figuring out the pecking order. I didn't want to disturb that as it was going peacefully, so I let bygones be bygones (if that's even the right saying ) and left him be. Not ideal, but not the end of the world as I trust her and her judgement on birds.

The 8 barred rock eggs in the incubator are finishing up day 2 currently.


(We will be harvesting some of the galaxies as they reach abt 16wks)


Also, as this post is now moving past the raising of chicks...perhaps I should have it moved (stories of my flock or something?!?! I dont know where it would be suitable) ...but idk how to do that...any suggestions??

Perseus update.

He is doing so well, all things considered.
The first night I had to place him in the coop. I put him on the roost for the night and there he settled. In the morning, everyone came out of the coop and (I am told as I had to work) He was great all day. I offered some scratch by hand and Perseus and the Galaxies all are from it. I put the left over on the ground, and Perseus chased all the Galaxies away. He definitely is a a snack hog, which is simply remedied by limiting snacks, and hand feeding them...which both aren't horrible choices.

The Galaxies are 8wks old now!!! And are loving all the roosting opportunities in their run, and within the coop...but i guess those change at night because no one roosts in the coop at night...go figure

They still huddle pile! (With Perseus in the middle!)

(Midnight in the second picture is getting some BEAUTIFUL coloring...)

Eta that I have 2 healthy eggs in the incubator currently hoping to add a male or two

(bought 8 but shipper didn't mark "Fragile" so they were soup..but I tried them for a wk anyway)
