Chirping
Hello everyone,
I was a member of BYC about 10 years ago, but life has taken a few hairpin turns since then.
I had a small homestead in AZ from 2009-2012 where we had milk cows, meat rabbits, a large laying flock and 7 breeding pens as well as a large garden and small greenhouse. I enjoyed playing around with genetics in my breeding pens. I was a regular at the local farmer's market selling eggs, starter veggies, rabbit meat and anything else we could produce. I also taught organic gardening, canning, etc.
One of my favorite things about chickens is throwing them evil tomato hornworms and watching them play keep away, then shred them to bits. I'm also a manure/compost junkie.
We are now empty nesters (homeschooled 5 kiddos) and have moved across the country to tiny town, SW PA. We have a 9,000 sq ft lot and are currently turning the entire backyard into food production-large greenhouse, large garden and chickens and rabbits. We will hopefully be getting 9 sex-link chicks this fall when the coop is ready. We will be colony raising the rabbits and chickens together in a 16x32 covered area.
I also quilt (mostly in winter) and crochet a bit. I also just started working as a paraeducator (special ed 4-6 gr) in the local tiny school where my husband teaches.
Looking to connect with others and learn/contribute as much as possible.
