I recently placed an order with ChickensforBackyards. Since ordering, I read a negative review on their Facebook page about someone receiving birds that ended about developing a rare disease. Now I am nervous about my order. Does anyone have any experience with them? Does anyone know if they get their chicks from reputable hatcheries/breeders?

Thanks for the reply and the pictures! It looks like you got nice, healthy looking birds from them. I ordered two speckled sussex from them, I would be happy if they ended up looking like yours.

I received my chicks from ChickensforBackyards.com two weeks ago. The chicks arrived the day after they hatched and were all healthy. They even sent three extra chicks. Overall, I am pleased with my experience with them.

We ordered 5 from them, arrived with 5 extra on June 3, all very healthy and active. At just Ofer 3 weeks now, I have a suspicion that 2-3 of the spares are roos and were shipped to add warmth. Which is fine since I have what looks at be all hens that I actually ordered! I’m very happy so far. I have two each of BR, EE, BO, light Brahma, Golden Comet.

I am glad to hear you also had a positive experience with ChickensforBackyards. I received mine on June 4. They sent me one extra of each breed I ordered. They all appear to be pullets at this point, but it is still too early to be sure.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your new flock!

Usually hatcheries throw in extra's of the same breed and type of chicken of the one you ordered. There is usually some kind of sexing guarantee but would never intentionally throw in a roo! Glad they are all happy and healthy! Did they turn out to be roo's or hen's?
