Hello, I live on a small Caribbean Island where purebred chickens are nonexistent. Recently I have been able to order fertile hatching eggs with 50% odds of hatching due to the rough shipping. I was able to get a batch of Rhode island reds to hatch, but they haven't done as well as I hoped. My first group only hatched 2 hens and 6 roosters. I will be trying to get birds of 2 other bloodlines to try making a spiral breeding group to breed for good dual-purpose qualities but also heat tolerance. The first group of birds really have not put on weight well the roosters especially have almost no breast meat at all. i am going to try worming them again, but I would like to know it good just be that their are lines of very skinny rhode island reds or am i missing something i have them on higher protein broiler ration for now. My second group of eggs will be hatching soon they are from a darker heritage rather than a production line so will see if they have the same problems.
