Roo or hen

For example my Cockerel. No spurs yet and clear male saddle feathers. He is about 20 weeks in this picture.

The bird in question looks to me to be about 11-15 weeks old. His saddle feathers still have growing to do. He will be quite a bit older before he gets spurs of any size.

Edited to add- I have a 3 year old Cream Legbar hen with a full set of 1 inch spurs. She lays a pretty blue egg.

Makes sense, what you're both are saying. Any chickens I've had in past were mature and usually the "common" breeds.

Seems wise to know the characteristics of the breeds to help evaluate what sex they are. I never knew hens could have spurs, very interesting. Thank you for clarifying.:D
