rooster killing a chicken.. she was not sick..

I have a question?? I just gave my rooster away because he killed one of my chickens and that chicken was his mother?? Has anyone heard of this happening?? he did not eat her he just pecked her to death?? why??

Could she have been wounded? I know sometimes if the chicken is cut or something others become overly interested and start pecking. Once they taste the meat/blood they realize it is pretty good.. Chickens are omnivores so meat is a natural part of their diet

I held her and there were no wounds,, he would see her come out from under the coop and he would go right for her. then he started going after others. I wonder if anyone else has ever had a crazy rooster.

I have a pretty good number of roosters and what you describe does not match my experience. Are you certain rooster did the killing? Direct observation needed. Show a picture of dead bird. How old is rooster involved?
