I posted some coop build pics in another thread. I want to get some feedback and suggestions on my roosting bar setup before getting the birds in.
In summary, I setup for same level roosting bars. 6x6’ coop. Roosts are 18” off each side and 5’ long each side. Cross bar roost is 36” across on back side. All removable. I had a suggestion to add the pop door landing which I did as seen in the first picture. The roosts are 23” up from the landing. I have the rear opening for cleanout where photos are taken.
Before I do anything further here are my thoughts as options. Currently have 9 birds with plans to maintain 8-12 at any one time.

1) Leave setup as is. Add a lower bar/step between pop door landing and roosts. I’m questioning if I have enough fly down clearance now.

2) Remove right side roost by nesting boxes for more fly down space and add intermediate step/roost in center area of coop parallel to upper.

3) Reconfigure orientation so that roosts are left to right and back towards cleanout doors. This option I may have a 6’ roost bar left to right as I would be able to go wall to wall. The second bar may be tougher with windows on one side.

Other suggestions or photos appreciated. Thank you!

Consider leaving as is,,,, If anything to change,,, I would lower them some,, so there is more distance from top of chickens heads to the eve roof ventilating.
I marked in red to show where you can mount supports. (height) Gives more headroom for chickens,, and keeps them out of potential draft air during winter. The eve ventilation needs to be open year round. Your windows, are great to be open during summer heat. In winter , should be closed, but let in light.

Welcome to BYC,

I'd lower the roosts and take the crossbar off.

My reasoning being that chickens tend to fly at about a 45-degree angle so the up and down is a bit steep as is and that the crossbar is in the way of needed access for when a hen decides to lay an egg in the far corner, etc. :)

You're right at the recommended 4 square feet per hen recommendation for 9 birds right now, but since you're in a severe winter area you might find that tight come winter unless you've also got a roomy, covered run. :)
