Run/Coop Skirting

I want to add a skirt to the coop and run to keep out predators. I plan on using 1/4”x2’ hardware cloth. I assume i attach it to the bottom of the run/coop and lay it out flat and then fill over with dirt??

Why 1/4"?
Might degrade faster than 1/2"....or something even larger/heavier.

Good examples of anti-dig apron installation.
If rodents are prolific, burying the apron ~12" would be good.

Because that’s what i want to use lol and the amount i found for 1/4 is cheaper then 1/2

Because the wire is thinner/weaker.

1/4 is not only thinner/weaker and will degrade against the ground faster, but the smaller holes will clog up with debris/feathers and look gnarly faster for the anti-reach-through section
