Rusty waterer

My metal little giant waterer has become rusty inside the water pan. Is this hazardous for the chicks to drink from?

Is there any way to restore the waterer?

If you can find some acetic acid (comes as a powder), mix it in the container & leave for a day. Should clean it right down to the metal. Obviously rinse well before use. I use it for taking care of rusty vintage motorcycle parts & it does an amazing job.
