Scalped button quail?

I was planning to put him with a stunning female I have in two weeks anyway for breeding, I guess I'll just keep him in solitary until them. He has (or had) some really interesting and striking coloring, including a sort of black mohawk. I wonder if the mohawk was what they were targeting? It was just starting to become really evident.
