So I've got two young'uns from this spring which my DH and I purchased as sexed pullets, to augment our flock with a couple of ameraucanas, Muffy and Skye...unfortunately Skye has recently let us know that "she" is actually Steve the Rooster.....
We suspected it once the saddle and hackles started coming in, but the crows this past week have confirmed it.
Now, as sweet as he is, and as much as I'd love to keep him, we can't have roosters in my town, so he has to go.
The problem is this...Steve and Muffy are totally bonded to each other. They were raised together, and even though they've been living outside with our older ladies since May, and everyone gets along, they have made no effort to join the original flock and are quite happy to do their own thing. They act like an old married couple, joined at the wing-tip at all times, sleeping together outside the coop, squabbling every once in a while, but perfectly happy to be off on their own. If they were to be separated, there is no question that both would have their little chicken hearts broken.
So do you all think I should I consider re-homing them together, rather than just sending Steve away? I don't believe I will have a problem finding a home for either or both of them, but I really want my blue egg layer, and she's on the point of lay.
Any suggestions for handling this little dilemma???
