Setting Eggs 12/28 - Hatching Buddies? Hatch-Along

I just hatched my first eggs so others will have better information.

My first pip sat for hours also, not really making any progress. The second pip zipped around the egg and hatched before my first pip. Both chicks were out within five minutes.

One thing I will do differently next time is more humidity!! I hatched in a Little Giant and it was tough keeping them moist enough. I ended up helping my third out of her shell. She was seriously stuck but ready to get out.

What color runner ducks are you hatching? I have 2 in the incubator black and chocolate.

is a pip for 5 hours normal, with no size increase but the chick is still live?

Yes, they rest after they pip and it can take 24 hours. Right now the chick is absorbing the yolk and blood from the egg. Let it be and it'll start to come out when it's ready

My final numbers are 25 alive and healthy. 1 backwards and splay legged died. 1 dead in the shell. 18 never started to form. Pretty good for collections below freezing. Congratulations on all of our new babies!
