I got two turkey poults 6 weeks ago (when they were two weeks old) and the lady was almost positive they were a male (the darker one) and a female (the lighter one). However I’m just not sure and obviously it’s extremely difficult to sex young turkeys. I was told they were a mix of Bourbon Red and Bronze but as the female gets older I’m begginning to think she’s fully a Bourbon Red. (Again, I have no experience here so I’m just going off of my research.)

With my lack of experience it’s difficult for me to figure out if they’re actually strutting, but sometimes if my dog runs by the chicken run the dark one will puff up into what looks like a strut but he quickly realizes she’s no threat to him and relaxes. The snoods are different but I’m not sure if that’s because of the different breeds. Just looking for a little guidance when it comes to the sex. There is a young male who was abused and is no in a safe location that I will take in if both of mine are females, just really hoping their not two males.
Thanks!

Your poults are too young to sex from pictures.

The one you think may be a Bourbon Red is not. It appears to be one of the many different varieties of buff.

I thought the lighter one might be a Jersey Buff but since the lady didn’t seem to have one I ruled it out. She definitely does look like a buff though.
When can you really begin to tell the sex? They are 9 weeks old now and I’m curious when I’ll be seeing signs and what they may be.

Thanks so much for your response.

Most start showing pretty good by 3 months and all but late developing toms can be easily determined by 6 months.
