I purchased 25 hens that were about 1 year or less. They are constantly sick, rattling in their chest, running bubbly sinuses, diarrhea in some, worms in poop that I have seen only 1 time. They had lice when I bought them, too. I've given them batril for the rattling in the chest and bubbly sinuses. I've used ivomec by mouth for 3 weeks in a row for worms. I've used a spray that I got from the vet for the lice. I'm wondering if I should just destroy the whole flock and start again? I've got a lot of money sunk in them at this point. One vet just wants to shrug it off and another vet charged me $125 to check 1 hen I took to him and for the medication I got from him. I gave $150 for the hens to begin with.
If I destroy the flock, how on earth am I going to get the ground clean again where they have free ranged? I can clean and disinfect the hen house and the fenced hen yard but what about where they have roamed on the farm? Will the sun take care of that?
I've posted on another site and have been told I should have checked out the seller before I bought them, told me not to eat the eggs, etc. I know NOW that I have made a big mistake by buying them, but I don't know what to do from here.
Sorry to go on and on, but this has been an expensive mistake I made by buying them. I just do not know what to do from here.
