should I go on an egg hunt?

I'm wondering if I shouldn't go on an egg hunt through the trees...

My 18 week olds are starting to get bigger/redder combs. I'm wondering if they are already laying and hiding thier eggs, or if they are getting ready to lay. When do they get the brighter combs, before or after they start laying?

They are probably getting ready to lay. The combs do get redder a little before they start to lay. It wont hurt to keep an eye open for eggs all around, but they will probably go to the nest boxes

they do go in the hen house at night (except the one bo who roosts on the roof), and they have been poking around in there during the day from time to time. I would think they would lay in there, just wondering. Thanks
