Sick goose

What is the name of the drug I tried looking up what you spelled and didn't see any antibiotic called that. How long has she been on it?

Can you explain how you keep her what type of bedding she sleeps on what you feed her and does she have a dry coop to sleep in?
It’s generic for Sulfadimethoxine “Albon,” I’m not familiar with it, but I’ve heard of it somewhere.

I'm probably oversharing 😓 I have aspergers Thank You for halp me
There’s no such thing as over sharing, the more information the better.

I did but he seemed to think it was more an esophageal inf or irritation he had never seen a goose before so I was honestly glad he would as I live on top of a mountain in nowhereville. He looked her over weighed her felt her neck and listened to her chest and lungs. He seemed to think the meds would work . The closest vet that has seen a goose before is 2 hours away I'm willing to take her but she was stressed in the car and it was 35 min drive. He didn't say anything about worms but I did ask
I would follow Miss Lydia’s advice and avoid using the lime for a bit. You might also switch to using pine wood shavings instead of straw.

If it’s possible I think you should take your goose to the more experienced vet. the other isn’t experienced and probably wouldn’t know what is or isn’t normal for a goose’s lungs to sound like.
Car rides are stressful but they can be a necessary inconvenience, and I think she should be looked at if she’s coughing up blood. If she’s likes being held and isn’t too squirmy you could hold her during the drive, that can help relieve her stress, that is if you have someone else driving.

I looked it up more, it’s a sulfa drug, similar to SMZ TMP and treats a lot of the same things, coccidia as well as a lot of respiratory bacterial problems. I doubt it will treat gapeworm if by chance that’s what’s going on but it’s a decent antibiotic.

After I saw the bottle I looked it up too.
https://www.chickens.allotment-garden.org/keeping-geese/geese-diseases-parasites-worms-lice-mites/ But possibly worming wouldn't be a bad idea I just don't think doing both at the same time would be a good idea. Give the antibiotic time to work and go from there? I would also give her a probiotic after she is done with the Sulfa drug since antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria.

I thought about the straw after I went to bed. I would change to pine shavings straw will grow mold and mold spores can be inhaled.

bb gurl is now in the University of Tennessee exotic animal hospital with an avian specialist so I'm just hoping she's gonna be ok idk anything yet 😓 we drove 2 hours to get her here

That is great you were able to get her there. Please keep us updated on how she is.

Sure wish I had gotten an alert about this.
She's home they sent test off for Asper and they gave ivermectin in case of gapeworm the parasitic lab was not available as on weekend. The cbc was just slightly elevated wbc and otherwise normal. She is eating better today... if it was gapeworm how fast would the injection work? She's going back to exotics for a follow up as well

That is great she is already eating better.
I don't know the time frame for killing off gape worms but I would think it would at least get started right away once in her system.

Did they say to keep her on the antibiotic the other vet started her on?
I hope the Asper test comes back negative also.

Thanks for the update.
