Hello all, I am in Pioneer, CA., the Sierra foothills. About 15 miles east of Jackson CA. 50 miles south east of Sacramento, CA. We get some snow in the winter and no hotter than 80 or 90 degrees in summer. We need very hardy hens. These girls would be more or less pets besides providing us with eggs. Our household consists of myself my daughter Sue, 7 dogs and 4 feral cats. We raise French Bulldogs and Brussels Griffons and Sue shows them.
When I got on this site I was blown away with the variety of hen houses. Keep going back to look some more. We need plans for the coop and enclosed run for the girls to be able to scratch and sun.
Would welcome any advice on sturdy breed, plus good brown egg layers.
