4-5 week old silkie chick. Developed small wound weeks ago assumed from pecking dispute due to small brooder. Only two chicks in brooder. Both placed in very large brooder, site cleansed and Neosporin, and no pick applied. Feathers appeared to be filling back in, 3 days ago feathers spear to be much thinner hematoma appears to be in place, loads of sweling, skin appears thin, no active bleeding, area cleaned with chicken wound spray, no pick applied. Initially dress wound but chick could not lift its head. Dressing removed and left open. Chick chirps, walks, eats, drinks. Given electrolyte water and yogurt on first day found peeled up along with regular feed. Sticking to regular chick feed and water after that initial day. What is this? Is it going to die? Called vet vet was at a loss. Anyone dealt with this??? This is my sons baby's he's raising and his 7yo heart is breaking I need to know what to do or prepare myself for? The other chick is healthy and fully feathered which makes me suspect this is a pecking issue. The last picture is of the "normal" chick.

A genetic defect could do this. In that case there is no telling if it will live or die. How ever it could be in favor of life in which case it might never go a way but be sides that it would be fine.
