Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for Silkie/faverolle breeding project I’m starting. I have a white silkie rooster who’s larger than usual. I have a thread on here about him and have been keeping his biggest offspring to try to start a line of LF silkies. I also raise salmon faverolles and have three hens in with him.

I hatched one hybrid chick and loved how it came out looking, so I started some more in the incubator from the same parents. I’ll be updating this thread with photos as these chicks grow.

What I’m hoping to achieve is a large, broody egg layer with easy temperment, lots of creamy colored fluff and a head poof, muffs and beard. Dark skin and blue earlobes would be nice. Also just curious about how this mix could turn out looking. 👍

I’d also love to see anyone else’s silkie x faverolle hybrids if anyone would like to share! Also any advice most welcome!

I've got Large Fowl Silkies. Currently working on breeding Giant Silkies. I'm not using Faverolles though.

LF Silkies exist in the US, they're Chinese Silkies, Hoover's Hatchery sells them as Bantams, though they're not. Some other hatcheries sell them as Broiler Silkies because of their size.

My largest is over 5lbs.

That’s awesome! I would love to have giant silkies someday and I’m surprised it isn’t more of a thing actually! Do yours lay regular sized eggs if you don’t mind me asking?

That’s a really impressive weight you’ve achieved. My biggest rooster is 4 pounds exactly, and I haven’t weighed his daughter yet, who’s also larger than bantom size. She’s also white and I’m going to try breeding her to my faverolle rooster next.

Well, my F2 hen is Satin with white skin, & lays Medium to Large eggs. My F2 Rooster is Silkied plus all the features of a Silkie. Have to get his weight for this year.

My LF Silkies lay large to extra large eggs.

Here's my F2 project Giant Silkie rooster.
He's Silkie/Brahma X Silkie.View attachment 3764144
Wow he’s stunning! He looks even bigger than my hatchery Brahmas, it was really smart to use them for your project. He even has a nice walnut comb too.

Thanks for sharing, it’s really encouraging to see your success with large silkies. And also great to hear they lay large eggs too. I love so many things about silkies and even the meat, and was wishing the eggs were bigger. This is awesome to see.

My Brahmas and some of my silkies lay pretty well in the winter, have you noticed that in your hybrids? That’s another goal I’m trying for with using the faverolles.

Thanks. His name is Floof.
Brahmas were just a base to keep body shape, fluff amount, up the size, add another color, & meat amount. But planning on adding Malay to the genetics to up the size even more, & add a more bossy attitude.

You're welcome.

My F2 hen actually took a break this winter. She laid pretty much all winter last year though.

Two more hybrid chicks hatched from the same parents, white silkie rooster over salmon faverolle hens. This is mostly to keep track of the chick color vs adult. Wish I had taken photos of the older hybrid as a baby chick! I’ll post updates as they grow.

Chick 1: has black stripes down back and head spot. Black skin, 5 toes and very full beard and muff. Hatched 3/15/24

Chick 2: hatched 3/13/24 is solid yellow with black skin. Muffs and beard are not as pronounced. All these hybrids have perfect feet, unlike my pure silkies I’ve been working so hard on. 🙄😂

Both chicks together. They are a good size as of now. The black and white chick next to them is an olive egger that hatched the day before them, for size comparison.
