How loud are Silkie roosters? From what I've heard they aren't nearly as loud as most other breeds-is this true? I live in an urban area and keep hens but want to breed silkies and it would be easier to keep the rooster in my backyard instead of family member's farm but I also don't want to cause a disturbance in my neighbourhood.

My Silkie roosters were quieter than my other rooster breeds, but they can still be very noisy. No rooster is really quiet, and if roosters are a problem in your urban neighborhood, I would strongly recommend not keeping a rooster there. At some point (probably not long after he starts crowing), you're going to get a cranky neighbor who's going to file a complaint regarding your rooster, and most likely will start complaining about your entire flock. Just raise the hens and be happy you can have chickens at all in an urban area. I know lots of people who would give their eye teeth just to be able to raise a few hens in their neighborhood.
