I’m already smitten with this baby!

Hoping she’s a she, but if she is she’s the chattiest little baby Silkie I’ve ever met! So much noise and chatter and cooing. It’s super adorable but has me suspicious 🤨 The girls I’ve owned are so quiet 🤐 I’m getting rooster inklings haha. Those familiar with blue cream in silkies…will there be male feather color differences? Or is it more diffuse on both? I will love having one of each but I reallllly didn’t need a Silkie boy! 🤪

Ive only had 3 hens so i can't give any idea.

My really sweet ones are always boys. I've kept bad looking boys as pets just because they were super sweet.

Haha, that is what my fear is...I already have an affinity for the boys...I really wanted a breed where I could love the girls more, but alas my heart always chooses the boys. Oh well, if it's a boy, I will at least get some cute babies! :D

I have this chick that came from a paint and black pair. I know it’s partridge colored. I’ve seen something about dominant white gene having mutations. So both my paint and my black have carry the eb (partridge) gene. This chick looks grey? Blue? Is this Smokey? I’ll post pictures of parents. Has light colored skin and tan toenails. I have never seen silkies with orange eyes.

Are the parents purebred?

Hi all! I'm looking at getting blue egg laying silkie cross Araucana eggs, hatch them, then cross back a hen to silkie rooster, would they still lay blue eggs but have more silkie fluffy feathering?

I guess it would be better to cross first those chicks. then cross back to silkies. it takes years.

Silkied feathering is recessive. First cross would have normal feathers and carry 1 copy of the silkied feathers. Crossed to a silkie you'd get about half the chicks with silkied feathers and half would have blue eggs. Blue egg gene is dominant so one copy and you'll get blue eggs.

Ive been working on it for many years. I used wheaten ameraucana so started with known hens with two blue egg genes. I Havent had a good male from a blue egg yet. So my hens only carry 1 copy of the gene at best. The 5th gen look like the rest of my silkies now so they are all leg banded. Here's hoping for a good rooster this year. Then I can work to getting two copies of the blue egg gene.
