Silkied feathering is recessive. First cross would have normal feathers and carry 1 copy of the silkied feathers. Crossed to a silkie you'd get about half the chicks with silkied feathers and half would have blue eggs. Blue egg gene is dominant so one copy and you'll get blue eggs.

Ive been working on it for many years. I used wheaten ameraucana so started with known hens with two blue egg genes. I Havent had a good male from a blue egg yet. So my hens only carry 1 copy of the gene at best. The 5th gen look like the rest of my silkies now so they are all leg banded. Here's hoping for a good rooster this year. Then I can work to getting two copies of the blue egg gene.
Mmm not as easy as I thought 😄 I might have to settle with blue egg layer Araucanas

Whats a fair price for a frizzled silkie that is pet quality? I normally sell normal feathered frizzle hens for $30. I have frizzle silkie showgirl roos too that are pet quality. Just trying to get an idea of a fair price in case I decide to part with any of them. They are three months old now.
They are nice and fluffy with big crests and nice feathers on feet, they look like a poof ball. Only problem is they have light colored skin, I didn’t think to check my roosters skin color, he was of nice type and from a breeder.😂🤦‍♀️ Lesson learned the hard way.

Offspring are paints some have developed more spots than others, that’s why I kind of want to grow them out more, I love watching their spots come in. Also some have vaulted skulls and some don’t.
