I'm pretty ignorant about silkies, so please don't laugh.

Most of the ones I've seen don't seem to have a lot of feathers on their heads when they're small, but by the time they reach adulthood their heads have basically turned into puffballs. Don't they have a hard time seeing? Do people trim the feathers around the eyes of their silkies in order to make it easier for them to see, and easier to see their eyes?

I had to trim around the eyes of 2 of our silkies. Theyd were having a very hard time seeing. They are pets though. I don't think people who show trim their eyes. Its not a dumb question I also have to trim my polish hens. Some people pluck but I just trim.

If the crest is hanging over the eyes you can use scissors and follow the contour around the head, trimming will not hurt them at all. Some people also use Nexcare(not sure if I spelled that right) tape and wrap the entire crest up, that way the whole thing is out of the way, you'd be suprised how they react when they can see, it's like a whole new world in front of them:)
